Video Chat with Strangers for Nov. 9-13

  11/11/20 06:46, by Lynne

ETA: This is an excellent time to join in the Video Chat with Strangers activity. Since the school is going to all-online format beginning Monday, Nov. 16, there will be fewer school-related opportunities to visit with your Laurel classmates. That's where the video chats pick up the slack -- not only are they fun, you can earn Laurel service hours while doing so. If you are interested in joining, please let me know right away so I can add your name to next week's groups. You can join anytime after that as well, but you won't be added until the following week(s).

Each group is responsible for contacting its members about when to meet, so it's helpful to make those arrangements early in the week. Also, see below about how to log your calls so they count toward Laurel service. As always, if you have any questions, please ask! I'm always happy to help.

I'm not sure where the post for this week's announcement is. It was updated Monday morning, but it isn't visible anywhere.

Anyway ....

Let's welcome Flynn to the group!

Also, this is a good time to ask those who signed up early in the school year but haven't been participating, if they they still want to be a part of this group. It's important to show up for the chats, not only to earn Laurel service and to have fun with your classmates, but also because the others in your group would like to do the same. If you don't show up, that can't happen. To be fair to everyone, if you do want to take part, then make the effort to do so; if you don't want to, that's fine, we understand. But please let me know so I can remove your name from the list and create groups from the remaining active participants.

And so, here are this week's groups:

Ben Belle Aiden

Miles Cadence Cammie

Sam Kate Ena

Jack Fiona Moriah Ethan

Fritz Anneka Ambrosia

Jasper Flynn Lotus Dexton

Keep in mind:

You will be coordinating with your group members about when to have your chat. The chat should occur this week. If one person in your group is unable to chat this week (or does not respond to the scheduling request), go ahead and chat with the other person(s) in your group. Just be sure to make every honest attempt to connect with your group members.

You also are responsible for keeping a log of Laurel service hours, so be sure to include these chats on that log. Include date, those you chatted with, and how long the chat lasted.

In order to earn Laurel service, the chat must be at least 15 minutes long (but can be longer, counted in 15 minute increments). You also must mention in your blog that day that you had the chat, who you chatted with, and how long the chat lasted. Failure to mention these things means it won't count toward Laurel service.

Finally, if your group would like to chat more than once during the week, that's awesome. Just be sure to mention this in your blog post each time a chat occurs.

Lynne, could you please add me too? Not for this week, but for next weeks? Thank you!

Where does the communication take place for the group meetings? I have heard anything but I wasn’t sure where to reach out?

Flynn, the members of each group make arrangements among themselves about when/how to meet. You can reach out through email or Google Hangouts or whichever platform you choose. If you haven’t been contacted by anyone yet, I would go ahead and send your group members an email to get the planning process started.
